The Center For Courageous Kids

I had the opportunity to drive up to Scottsville last week and check out The Center For Courageous Kids.  And after visiting, it is great to know a place like this exists in our own backyard.  The Center For Courageous Kids provides a camp atmosphere to kids who would normally feel really out of place at a traditional camp.  They are limited from different physical conditions that would leave them unable to participate in some cases if they were to go to a camp with kids that were not limtied in any way.  And furthermore, they get to take part in a camp that has the resources to make sure these kids get a worthwhile experience.  That's what this camp does.  They give kids the opportunity to take a break from doctor visits and tests to have fun for just one weekend.  To experience riding a horse or swimming ( the pools accomodate EVERYONE!).  For some, this may be the only fun thing they get to do EVER because they are terminally ill.  And The Center For Courageous Kids lets the families come and spend the weekend together, so that families can bond and form support groups and even more imprtantly, form friendships.  The best part, no one pays for this camp.  It is provided for nothing more than to leave an imprint on the mind, heart, and soul of every child and family that gets to attend.  And how does a child get to attend?  Just show up ( there's a little more to it, but not much).  And from just observing a small protion of the camp myself, it will leave an imprint on you as well.  The Center For Courageous Kids does not recieve public funding, however.  They rely on donations to keep up their mission.  I think that if you are looking for a cause to contribute to, consider The Center For Courageous Kids.  Why?  Well because what they do is great..  That's one reason.  Another reason is that it's right here in Kentucky and the kids they help may be your neighbor, or go to your church, or may be in your child's class, or because you may have a child, brother, nephew, or friend that just wants to be just like everybody else for one weekend.  For more info log onto www.courageouskids.org.
