On Saturday, nearly 1,000 people flocked to the city of Staunton, Illinois to take part in the city’s 20th annual Tour de Donut bike race. What’s the Tour de Donut you ask? Good question! It’s a 32-mile bike race that’s modeled after the Tour de France with one bike difference. Instead of water stops, the Tour de Donut makes donut stops, riders make several stops to eat as many donuts as possible before continuing on in the race. According to the rules, five minutes is subtracted from the rider’s final time for every donut they eat. Example if a rider gets a time of one hour, but eats three donuts, the final time would be 45 minutes.
The winner of the race was Jim Vyoksy, he won in one hours, 20 minutes and 11 seconds, but he didn’t eat the most donuts. That title goes to Steven Meinke. He ate 27 of them.
