Forget Puppy Love its all about the lion love...

I am totally fascinated by stories of people who interact with wild animals like they are household pets or people. The other night on “Primetime: The Outsiders,” I watched the story of a gentleman who is actually living with bears in Alaska. He has built “Bear Haven” and he and the bears intermingle, one named Walter is even invited into his kitchen to eat from his hands. I am in awe and at the same time I think he’s totally crazy, but I still watched.

Then today I was surfing the internet and found another story about animals and people. In 1969, two friends John Rendall and Ace Berg purchased a lion. At the time, Christian was a 35 lb lion cub. He was born in the zoo. The two friends (along with Rendall’s live-in girlfriend) raised Christian in their London home. Within a year, Christian had grown to be 185 lbs. Rendall and Berg realized that they couldn’t keep him much longer but they didn’t know what to do with him. A chance encounter with two actors changed that. They recommended a conservationist, George Adamson, who lived in Kenya. Christian was soon living in Kenya where he was rehabilitated and released into the wild. In 1974 Rendall and Berg decided to go Kenya to visit Christian on last time, since he was now a wild animal. George to the two that it was unlikely that they would see Christian because no one had seen him for nine months. The two decided to fly to Kenya anyway. One the day that they arrived, Christian was waiting outside of George Adamson’s camp. Apparently his animal instincts kicked in. Check out this video of their reunion: (There is no sound in this video, but its really awesome!)
