- Last year 35 year-old Carley Torres and her husband Laramie Torres of Medford, Oregon sent their kids door-to-door to ask for donations, so that they could send their daughter to volleyball camp. Nothing wrong their, right??!! Well, instead of using the money to send their daughter to camp like they said, they blew it on shopping trips, movies and monster truck rallies. It’s unclear how they were busted but they were. Laramie and Carley were both charged with theft. Laramie was given 160 hours of community service and two years probation, while Carley got 90 days in jail. Plus they have to return all $3,000 they scammed off their friends and neighbors.
- In Brierly Hill, England, a 35 year-old man had to be hospitalized after super-glue was deliberately smeared on the toilet seat he sat on. Firefighters were unable to free the man and were forced to remove the stainless steel toilet with the poor guy still attached. It happened in a public restroom and he was taken to a hospital where doctors had to get into the ambulance before using chemicals to free him. Fortunately he appeared to be non the worse for wear after his ordeal.
- You may or may not have known this but in Turkey there is actually a city called Batman and that city is now suing Christopher Nolan and Warner Brothers for royalties from “The Dark Knight.” Huseyin Kalkan, the mayor of Batman, has accused the Batman movie producers of using the city’s name without permission. Kalkan said, “There is only one Batman in the world. The American prodcucers used the name of our city without informing us.” The mayor also says the film’s success had had a psychological impact on the city’s inhabitants, which he blames for a number of unsolved murders and a high female suicide rate. So he’s now gathering documentation he claims will show that the city of Batman predates the 1939 debut of the superhero in DC Comics.
