- Some people should just know better. In Charleston, WV, police said a man tried to rob a Movie Gallery video rental store with a very unusual weapon, an empty cheesecake box. The suspect entered the store and put the box on the counter with a note saying it contained a bomb. He told the clerk the bomb would be detonated remotely if he wasn’t given cash. The clerk refused and the suspect fled. Later police arrested 43 year-old Paul Parrish II who allegedly confessed after he was shown a store video of the attempted robbery. He reportedly told police he needed the money for cigarettes and gas. (Look I know times are hard and gas is high but didn’t you learn anything from the guy who tried to do this previously with a Jell-O box?? Plus if you have to rob someone for smokes, its time to quit!!)
- Just outside of Greensboro, NC sits High Point University, a college that has struggled with recruiting students and making budgets. That’s all changed thanks to the new “Director of WOW,” whose job it is to thrill the current students and attract new ones. The college now provides free ice cream for students, a hot tub in the middle of campus, wake-up calls and concierge service. This is the brainchild of President Nido Qubein, a motivational speaker and businessman who believes in the “customer comes first” motto, of course in this case the customers are the students. (Forget the party school, I want the pamper me school!)
- Leo Hildebrand has had a lifelong dream of throwing out the first pitch during a Cubs game at Wrigley Field. His daughter, Arlene Burm says, her dad a lifetime Cubs fan, can’t wait much longer. You see Leo is 104 years-old. Jason Carr, a Cubs spokesman said, “Due to the large number of requests and suggestions, and given the limited opportunities, its difficult to accommodate everyone. We have so many deserving fans, including Leo Hildebrand, but we can’t get to them all.” (Ummm…here’s my thinking, he’s 104, go ahead and get to him…QUICK!!!)
