A new Tom Cruise movie about the man who tried to kill Adolf Hitler is scheduled to come out the day after Christmas. "Valkyrie" is based on the true story of Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, who plotted the failed assasination attempt at the height of the infamous dictator's military campaign. Cruise, who plays von Stauffenberg, is joined by an acclaimed cast that includes Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, Carice van Houten, Thomas Kretschmann, Eddie Izzard, Christian Berkel and Terence Stamp. Much of the historical suspense-thriller was shot on location where the events really took place in Germany. An MGM rep said they decided on the December 26th release because, quote, "a strong movie deserves a strong playdate."
It's another exciting week for pop heartthrobs The Jonas Brothers with the release of their third album "A Little Bit Longer." Billboard.com reports the disc, that dropped Tuesday, is expected to hit number one on The Billboard 200 by next week. The disc made sales of 201-thousand by the end of its first day of release, and both the Hollywood record label and its distributor, Universal, predict sales will reach between 675 and 725-thousand by Friday. Hollywood GM Abbey Konowitch says the fantastic response to "Longer" comes after a hefty load of performances from the boys in recent months. She said, quote, "we knew the fan base was as fanatical as it gets, but what was done by the group and us in the past few months, in a way, flies in the face of conventional marketing."
Britney Spears is hoping her children don't grow up like her. In her first interview in two years, the singer tells "OK!" magazine that she would "rather not" her two sons follow her down the path of celebrity. She added, quote, "I'd love them unconditionally if they wanted to. I'd just as soon they have a more normal childhood." The boys' father, Spears' ex-husband Kevin Federline, has full custody of them while Spears has visiting rights. Spears tells "OK!" that when she found out her younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears was pregnant, it was "mind-boggling," because the "baby was having a baby." Britney also shares that she is now finishing her new album, which she calls her "best work ever."
Madonna is not about to adopt another Malawian toddler. That's according to the pop star's reps who say it's completely untrue that Madonna's trying to adopt the three-year-old named Mercy James. "Us Magazine" quotes Madonna's rep Liz Rosenberg who said, "there is no truth to this rumor. It's an old one - wasn't true then or now. Madonna is starting her tour in a week." The stories came about after the U.K. newspaper "The Sun" quoted the Malawian adoption minister as saying that Madonna's reps had been visiting Mercy James frequently. The pop star recently adopted two-year-old David Banda from Malawi after a two-year court battle to bring the baby home. David's 60-year-old caregiver died from pneumonia in Malawi earlier this week. Before her passing, the caregiver, known as "Mama," gave her full blessing to Madonna and David.
Pop star and new dad Clay Aiken is going to pay his respects to Broadway for a second time. "Variety" reports that the former "American Idol" runner-up will reprise his role as Sir Robin in the musical "Monty Python's Spamalot" from September 19th to January 4th. Aiken's first run in the show is said to have had a "noticeable effect on the box office," with sales surging the week he joined "Spamalot," and then taking a "steep tumble," when he left.
Rumored celebrity couple Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer have reportedly parted ways. According to "People" magazine, the actress and singer-songwriter, who reportedly have been dating since April, have called it quits. Reps for Aniston and Mayer would not comment on the report. Thirty-nine-year-old Aniston has been spotted at a number of 30-year-old Mayer's concerts this summer. Her next film, "He's Just Not That Into You," has had its release date pushed back from October to February. It was originally set to open the same day as actress Angelina Jolie's next film, "Changeling." Jolie's partner, actor Brad Pitt, is Aniston's ex-husband.
It's not yet known exactly who will be performing at next month's MTV Video Music Awards, but a Kid Rock-Britney Spears collaboration is definitely not in the cards -- according to Kid Rock. When asked about a potential duo with Spears, Kid Rock told Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM show Wednesday, quote, "I can give you a definite no on that. In one word: No. In two words, hell, no!" Spears is up for Best Pop Video and Best Female Video at this year's moonman awards show, scheduled to take place on September 7th While she is taking part in promo ads for the event with host, Russell Brand, it has not yet been announced if she will perform. Kid Rock is in the running to be nominated for Best Rock Video with his song "Amen." MTV will announce whether he snagged the nomination on Friday.
Fans wanting to land a date with one of the Jonas Brothers now have some pointers straight from the red hot pop stars themselves. "People" magazine reports the main criteria Nick, Joe and Kevin look for in a girl is an upbeat personality. Eighteen-year-old Joe told MTV's TRL on Wednesday, quote, "if they are nagging and annoying, you're like, 'Go away.'" Twenty-year-old Kevin agreed with his brother saying that, after a lot of travelling and performing, he doesn't want to hear a girl whine about her day. The youngest brother, 15-year-old Nick, adds that how a girl treats her family is also very important to him. He said, quote, "they have to be good to their moms."
Britney Spears says she's back at the keyboard. The pop star promises her next recording, with an "urban" feel, will be out within nine months. She told "OK!" magazine, quote, "I'm writing every day, right here at the piano." She says she's written more for the new project than for her five previous studio albums. Spears is trying to come back from a stretch of troubling behavior and custody battles with former husband Kevin Federline. Her father, Jamie Spears, has been in charge of her affairs for the past six months. On the brighter side, she's been mentioned as a possible Emmy award nominee for her cameo role on the TV series "How I Met Your Mother."A version of Jennifer Lopez's romantic comedy "Maid in Manhattan" may be headed to the small screen. According to "The Hollywood Reporter," ABC is in negotiations with the 2002 film's producers to adapt it for TV. The premise of the series would feature a single mom working in a fancy New York hotel, and her relationships with her coworkers and hotel guests. In the film, a single mom, played by Lopez, working at a hotel is romanced by a politician after he mistakenly thinks she is a wealthy socialite. The pilot for the television version of "Maid in Manhattan" will be written by Chad Hodge, with Lopez serving as one of the producers.
Lindsay Lohan's constant gal pal Samantha Ronson is receiving some flack from her former lawyer for her ongoing lawsuit. E!Online reports attorney Martin Garbus filed papers in a Los Angeles Superior Court Tuesday to have parts of Ronson's malpractice and negligence suit thrown out. Ronson sued Garbus claiming the attorney abandoned her during a defamation suit against blogger Perez Hilton. Garbus claims the punitive damages Ronson seeks are not warranted because they claim neither fraud, malice, or oppression. A hearing for Garbus' new motion is set for September 9th.
Madonna is getting some nods for having one of the best acting performances by a musician for her role in "Desperately Seeking Susan." British CD and DVD retailer HMV is behind the list, which places the pop queen in fifth place. Coming up first is Frank Sinatra for his role in the 1953 movie "From Here to Eternity." In second place is Elvis Presley's work in "Jailhouse Rock," followed by Eminem in "8 Mile," and Ice Cube in fourth place for "Boyz N The Hood." Bjork, Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Prince, and Justin Timberlake complete the list.

Percy Miller is ditching the stage name that helped him earn millions. The rapper, who gained fame under the name Master P, has announced that he will now go by the name P. Miller. He says the move is because he's ready to move into his "manhood," and that Master P represents his "childhood." Miller adds, quote, "People grow mentally and spiritually though life experiences, but when you come from hip-hop it's almost impossible to move past the stereotypes associated with it." Last month, Miller became the first African-American hip-hop supplier to ink a clothing deal with Wal-Mart. The fashion line is called P. Miller Designs. In addition, Miller and his son, rapper Romeo, started a clean lyrics rap record label last year called Take A Stand Records.
Sandy Denton is about to reveal the details of her life in a book. According to AllHipHop.com, the woman better known as "Pepa" of Salt-N-Pepa fame will release an autobiography next month. The book has been dubbed "Let's Talk About Pep." Denton calls it, quote, "The memoir of a true pioneer, fighter, survivor, and inspiration to women everywhere." Readers can expect a look into Denton's childhood, her marriage and divorce with Naughty By Nature rapper Treach, and the break up of Salt-N-Pepa. "Let's Talk About Pep" will also feature a forward from Missy Elliott and an epilogue from Queen Latifah. Author Karen Hunter, who has worked with LL Cool J and Queen Latifah, helped Denton write the book.
A public memorial for soul music legend Isaac Hayes is in the works. The service will be held this coming Monday, August 18th, at 11 a.m. at Hope Presbyterian Church in Cordova, Tennessee. Hayes died Sunday afternoon after suffering a stroke. His passing came less than two weeks before his 66th birthday. Hayes' family is requesting that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Stax Museum Children's Music Academy in Memphis. Surviving family members include his wife, Adjowa Hayes, 12 children, and 14 grandchildren. Talk show icon Oprah Winfrey continues to stand by her man. Oprah's close friend, Gayle King, has confirmed to "Entertainment Tonight" that Oprah will be in attendance at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Thursday, August 28th, for Barack Obama's acceptance speech for the Democratic presidential nomination. King says Oprah does not plan to take the stage at the event, but "is planning to be there." King also shares that Oprah has not been asked to introduce the Illinois Senator and, "is not expecting to be asked to introduce him." Oprah first endorsed Obama last spring. She has also appeared at several campaign rallies on his behalf.
One of Hollywood's most powerful women is leaving her studio job behind to go it alone. Paula Wagner, who is equally famous for being Tom Cruise's longtime producing partner, announced yesterday that she would be leaving her chief executive position at United Artists to make movies for herself. Wagner and Cruise acquired an ownership stake in United Artists in November 2006. In a statement, the 61-year-old Wagner said she enjoyed her time as an executive, but longed to return to what she described as her "true love," making movies. United Artists' parent company Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. said there would be no changes to Tom Cruise's involvement with the studio. Sources said Wagner would leave her job after completing production on the World War II drama "Valkyrie" and that she would make movies under her own film label and for United Artists.
The new season of "America's Next Top Model" will include a transgender contestant. Twenty-two-year-old Isis, a former receptionist who will be competing on the CW reality show, tells UsMagazine.com that her, quote, "cards were dealt differently," and that she is, "a woman born physically male." Isis also says that when it comes to her being a role model, she would "like to help people," but she is on the show to follow her dreams. Neil Giuliano, the president of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, says that the inclusion of Isis is, quote, "an unprecedented opportunity for a community that is underrepresented on television." "America's Next Top Model's" cycle eleven premieres Wednesday, September 3rd, at 7 p.m. on the CW.
A former "Caped Crusader" may be headed to the ballroom. According to the "New York Post's" "Page Six," the original "Batman," Adam West, is being considered for the new season of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars." Although West turns 80 next month, he is described as being in "outstanding shape." A rep for West says his place on the reality competition is "not definite yet," but he is "one of the people they are seriously looking at." "In Touch" recently reported that the next round of "Dancing" contestants will include singer Toni Braxton, reality star Kim Kardashian, NFL great Dan Marino, "Brady Bunch" alum Florence Henderson, former 'N Sync member Lance Bass and rodeo cowboy Ty Murray. Neither report has been confirmed by ABC. The official cast list will be revealed on "Good Morning America" on August 25th. The seventh season of "Dancing with the Stars" will premiere on ABC Monday, September 22nd.
"Beverly Hills, 90210" alum Jennie Garth is responding to the decision of her former co-star Tori Spelling to back out of the new CW "90210" spin-off series. Garth, who also stars in the new series, tells EW.com that she is, quote, "really bummed because I love Tori and I was psyched Tori was going to be on the show." There have been rumors that Spelling backed out of the spinoff because her salary was going to be less than that of Garth and fellow returning "90210" veteran Shannen Doherty. Garth says that Spelling, quote, "should definitely get paid as much as either of us is getting paid." She adds that "it seems wrong" if Spelling is not making as much, especially since her father, late legendary producer Aaron Spelling, "created the show." Garth says she doesn't know exactly what caused Tori to back out, but "would like to talk to her" about it.
Hotel heiress Paris Hilton is dealing with a pricey lawsuit. According to court papers obtained by TMZ.com, Worldwide Entertainment Group is accusing the sometime actress of allegedly not keeping up her end of the deal to promote her 2006 comedy "National Lampoon's Pledge This!" The suit claims that Hilton was paid one-million-dollars to act in the film and then publicize it on television and radio, which she is accused of not doing. Worldwide Entertainment Group is asking for 75-thousand-dollars in damages. Reps for Hilton have not commented on the suit. "National Lampoon's Pledge This!" was a straight-to-video release.
Supermodel and former rock star wife Rachel Hunter is giving marriage another try. The 38-year-old's rep has confirmed to "People" that Hunter is now engaged to her 26-year-old boyfriend Jarret Stoll. He is a native of Canada and a hockey player for the Los Angeles Kings. The couple has been together for two years. Hunter married rocker Rod Stewart in 1990. Their divorce was finalized in April, 2006. They have two teenage children together, 16-year-old Renee and 14-year-old Liam. Hunter recently appeared on the NBC reality competition "Celebrity Circus," which was won by actor Antonio Sabato Jr.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are in talks to star in a new movie together called Food Fight. Paramount Pictures denies discussions are taking place. ' In the film, Cruise would play an arrogant, world-class chef who, due to a series of mishaps, ends up cooking in a inner-city school cafeteria.
