An actor who appeared in the Steve Carell comedy "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. According to E! Online, Indian comic Shelley Malil is accused of brutally stabbing an ex-girlfriend 20 times and then fleeing the scene. Officials told San Diego's KNSD-TV that Malil arrived at the victim's home Sunday evening and found her in the backyard with another man. He then allegedly grabbed a knife and began stabbing her. The woman's two children were reportedly at home at the time. The other man tried to intervene and was stabbed in the hand. The female victim, who has not been identified, was listed in critical condition, but is now expected to survive. Malil was arrested Monday evening. Malil played Chad in "The 40-year-old Virgin," and has also appeared on the TV series "Scrubs," "Seinfeld" and "NYPD Blue."
She's already up for two moonmen at this year's MTV Video Music Awards and rumor has it that Britney Spears might even grace viewers with a performance. MTV won't confirm whether or not the pop princess will perform at the September 7th event, but her participation in promotional ads for the show are fueling speculation. In the ads, Spears tosses around jokes with the show's host, British comedian Russell Brand. When Spears jokes about not knowing Brand's name, he says jokingly, quote, "you will remember that name because I think pretty soon it's going to be your surname." The ads also feature a nine-thousand pound elephant.
Still not confirming reports that they are an item, international deejay Samantha Ronson calls Lindsay Lohan simply "great." Ronson tells "Harper's Bazaar" magazine she doesn't feel she should have to defend herself or her friends to the tabloids. When asked about a "more than good friends" relationship with Lohan, Ronson responded, quote, "she's also 22 years old. I think people forget that. With the Internet the way it is, one second we're enemies, one second we're best friends, one second we're lovers, and then we're broken up." The paparazzi has snapped scores of photos showing Lohan and Ronson in affectionate poses in recent months, but Ronson maintains they are good friends. She added, quote, "even the airport-security guy in Canada asked me, 'So, is it true?' It's like, 'Oh yeah, like I'm telling you.'"
Pop star Britney Spears is reportedly breaking her silence. According to MSNBC.com's "The Scoop," the singer will appear in this week's "OK!" magazine for her first sit-down interview and photo shoot in nearly two years. That's the same publication who claimed that while trying to do a past photo shoot with Spears, she arrived late, left early, behaved erratically throughout, and allegedly, along with her entourage, damaged or stole some 21-thousand-dollars worth of designer clothes and accessories. The new "OK!" interview is expected on newsstands nationwide this Friday. A conversation with Spears' dad, Jamie Spears, is also reportedly part of the piece.
Justin Timberlake will have two spotlight moments at New York Fashion week next month. "Women's Wear Daily" reports the star will not only perform at the Fashion Rocks concert on September 5th, but he'll witness his own fashion line rock the catwalk at Roseland Ballroom two days later. Timberlake and best buddy Trace Ayala first launched their William Rast clothing line back in October 2006. The line didn't quite take off, so they decided to appoint Marcella and Johan Lindeberg as creative directors of the line. The new team first showcased the collection back in February. Along with Timberlake, Beyonce, Chris Brown and Mariah Carey will also perform at Fashion Rocks this fall. Big fashion names who'll also be showing off their designs at the Big Apple event include Vera Wang, Charlotte Ronson and Michael Kors.
A former member of Blink-182 is crying foul play against two business partners, claiming they scammed the band members and others out of money. E!Online reports former Blink singer and bassist Mark Hoppus filed suit Monday in a San Diego Superior Court against father and son duo, Ed and Jeff Mitchell. He claims the two took around one-point-five million dollars from him and his former bandmates for their own personal gain. The money was allegedly supposed to go toward a business venture that would install automated checkout machines at McDonald's restaurants. Hoppus also claims he and his wife invested 600-thousand dollars of their personal money into the Mitchells' company, Missicom LLC. He says the company raised around three-and-a-half million dollars not just from his band, but from other celebrities also. Overall, Hoppus is seeking around two-million dollars in damages. The trial is set to begin on September 8th in San Diego.
Chris Brown's new album isn't set for release until next year, but some of its material is already on the Internet. "Access Hollywood" reports the singer's label, Jive Records, is working to prevent any further material from being leaked illegally. In a statement, they said, quote, "most of the unfinished songs were demos and reference tracks Brown and his production team were writing and producing for other artists." The album, named "Graffiti," will be the follow up to Brown's disc "Exclusive." The pop and R&B singer's current single "Forever" remains among the Billboard Hot 100. Brown is up for Best Male Video and Best Dancing in a video at this year's MTV Video Music Awards.
Madonna is teaming up with the notable French fashion designer Givenchy to provide some looks for her upcoming Sticky and Sweet tour. E!Online reports the pop icon, who turns 50 this week, will have at least two costumes designed by Givenchy. One of which she will wear during her opening performance, and the other will be seen during a number in the concert's third act. One of the costumes consists of a gypsy-inspired long cape to be worn over a black dress with colored ribbons. Last week, long time designer for Madonna, Arianne Phillips, told "Women's Wear Daily" there will be a dominatrix feel to at least one part of Madonna's show. Phillips said that, despite criticism from some regarding the pop star's outfit choices, quote, "there are no vanity considerations based on her age, she looks good in everything." The tour begins in Cardiff, England on August 23rd.
"High School Musical" star Vanessa Hudgens is being sued for more than five-million dollars. "People" magazine reports producer Johnny Vieira filed suit against her in a Los Angeles Superior Court Monday. He claims the 19-year-old hasn't paid him his deserved earnings from when they working together to launch her career. He adds they two agreed to, quote, "share equally" the profits. When "High School Musical" made it big, Hudgens reportedly left Vieira, still owing him two-million dollars. Hudgens has so far not commented on the suit.
Selena Gomez continues to dodge questions about potentially being in a relationship with the youngest Jonas Brother, Nick. E!Online reports the 16-year-old Disney star told Ryan Seacrest on Tuesday that Nick is, quote, "an amazing guy, Ryan. Anybody would be very lucky to be dating him." She went on to say she is close to all the Jonas Brothers and left it at that.
Chicago residents will soon get their first Fatburger franchise, thanks to Kanye West. According to "Crain's Chicago Business," the rapper plans to open a location next month in the city's southern suburb of Orland Park. West's KW Food LLC reportedly purchased the rights to open a total of ten Fatburger restaurants in the Chicago area. A second location is scheduled to open in January, just minutes away from his old stomping grounds in Oak Lawn. West isn't the only celeb to get involved with Fatburger franchises. Queen Latifah has one in Miami, and members of The Roots picked up one in Philadelphia.
Arizona authorities are once again looking to put DMX behind bars. The rapper was due in court this morning, but failed to show up. His attorney asked the court to give him until 4:00 p.m. local time to provide documentation as to why DMX missed the hearing. When the deadline passed with no word from the rapper's camp, Commissioner Phemonia Miller issued an arrest warrant. She also raised DMX's bond from ten-thousand dollars to 25-thousand dollars. DMX's legal woes in the Phoenix area include an arrest in May on drug possession and animal cruelty charges, stemming from a raid at the rapper's home last August. He was also arrested in July on an identity theft charge. In June, DMX was arrested in Florida twice in one week on traffic and drug-related charges.
Isaac Hayes apparently died of a stroke. Shelby County Medical Examiner Dr. David Kraus has ruled that the soul icon passed away Sunday after suffering a stroke, likely triggered by his high blood pressure. The 65-year-old Hayes had been under a doctor's care for the condition, and had previously suffered a less severe stroke. Kraus notes that while Hayes was found collapsed near a running treadmill, the singer didn't appear to have any head injury or to have suffered any physical trauma. Hayes' family is reportedly "comfortable" with the doctor's findings and no autopsy will be performed. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer suffered the fatal stroke at his Memphis-area home Sunday afternoon, and died at a local hospital. Hayes is best known for composing and performing "The Theme From Shaft" for which he received an Oscar in 1972.
The parents of "Heroes" star Hayden Panettiere say the arrest of Panettiere's father, Alan, on domestic violence charges on Monday "was all a big misunderstanding." Alan Panettiere and his wife, Lesley Vogel, tell "Extra," quote, "nothing actually happened." They also say that they "love each other very much and want everyone to know that the matter was completely blown out of proportion." Alan was taken into custody after Lesley reportedly called police around 3 a.m. Monday. Police said they arrested Alan at the family's home on a felony charge instead of a misdemeanor because, quote, "there were visible signs of injury" on Lesley's face. Alan allegedly "got upset" and struck Lesley "one or two times on the left cheek which caused some bruising." He was released on 50-thousand-dollar bail Monday afternoon.
The father of "Hairspray" star Nikki Blonsky has been released from a Turks and Caicos jail on bail. An attorney for Carl Blonsky tells "People" magazine that although his client had originally been denied bail, an appeal was made, quote, "on the grounds that Mr. Blonsky has some health problems," thought to involve a serious kidney condition. That appeal was successful. Carl has been jailed since an alleged brawl in a Turks and Caicos airport lounge at the end of July. The altercation also reportedly involved Nikki Blonsky and members of the family of "America's Next Top Model" contestant Bianca Golden. Carl Blonsky faces a charge of "grievous bodily harm," for allegedly seriously injuring Golden's mother. His court date is set for August 19th. Nikki and Bianca were charged with assault and actual bodily harm before they were both released on bail. Those charges carry a maximum sentence of two years in jail. Nikki's court date is set for December, while Bianca is due in court in September.
The passenger who was with actor Shia LaBeouf when his car crashed last month says they are "both fine." Actress Isabel Lucas, who is currently filming "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" with LaBeouf, also tells "Access Hollywood" that the actor's "hand is healing well." LaBeouf needed "extensive hand surgery" as a result of an injury he suffered in the crash and was expected to miss about a month of work on the "Transformers" set. The director of the film says LaBeouf's injury will be written into the script. Twenty-two-year-old LaBeouf was cited for a misdemeanor DUI following the accident, but authorities said the crash was likely caused when another driver ran a red light.
Paris Hilton has dumped Benji Madden for the co-founder of My Space. She and CEO Chris DeWolfe, who's married, have been seeing each other for the past few weeks. TechChrunch reports she has been attending all of his Hamptons parties and is telling friends he separated from his wife for her.
Jack Black says the worst thing about filming Tropic Thunder was coming face-to-face with a man eating centipede. "There are creepy crawlies in there and apparently they got real dangerous centipedes. You think it's gonna be a fun video game but real centipedes, if they bite you, it's like getting shot with a bullet; it's that painful! You can try to control the jungle but no one could clear all the centipedes. The nooks and crannies, where they hide, are impossible to find."

Robert Downey Jr. says he is not smart enough to understand The Dark Knight. "I feel like I’m dumb because I feel like I don’t get many things that are so smart. The Dark Knight is like a Ferrari engine of storytelling and scriptwriting and I’m like, ‘That’s not my idea of what I want to see in a movie.’ I didn’t understand The Dark Knight… I still can’t tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and, in the end, they need him to be a bad guy. I’m like, ‘I get it - this is so high brow and so f**king smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.’"
"Tropic Thunder" director and star Ben Stiller is responding to protests of his film by nearly two dozen disability groups. The 22 organizations allege the comedy depicts those with mental handicaps in a negative way. Stiller tells MTV that while the movie is "sort of edgy territory," those behind the film, quote, "felt that as long as the focus was on the actors who were trying to do something to be taken seriously that's going too far or wrong, that was where the humor would come from." Co-writer Ethan Cohen says that while "Some people have taken this as making fun of handicapped people," the filmmakers are "really trying to make fun of the actors who use this material as fodder for acclaim." "Tropic Thunder" arrives in theaters today. The movie also stars Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr., and features a cameo by Tom Cruise.
